With Rudolph passing away, this thread is not really in a good taste, no matter if it's old. At the very least, removing the controversial images/posts from pages 48 and 49 should be necessary. I doubt he would ever wanted to be associated with such behavior, no matter what you might have thought of him.

While I know this forum is an open hydepark, delicate things such as death should be respected.

There's no doubt that the guy was intelligent. I do have to say, that de-compiling Microsoft's work and selling (redistributing) the results, is at best, dubious BEHAVIOR. Then trying to say that nobody can reverse engineer his patch after having done the same thing to Microsoft, well I'll spare you the full details of what I think of that BEHAVIOR. Suffice it to say, it's not good. I plan on revisiting this problem sometime, but no worries, whether I succeed or not, I won't steal his precious-wecious, ill-gotten "intellectual property".

As for death being delicate, it happens to all of us eventually and from what I've seen of it, there's nothing delicate about it.

We don't know if Rudolph had any exclusive secret deals made with Microsoft that would allow his business model of selling extended functionality for legacy operating systems to function. That's highly unlikely, but possible. He has been in the computer industry since the seventies, so he might have been seen as an valuable and highly-ranked member.

I have plans to develop my own open-source RAM patch based on my own reverse-engineering work, as well as an another open-source project that would be very beneficial for 98SE/ME users. This would be my tribute to his work, regardless of how people viewed his business model.

That being said, I had no idea he died. It is sad to hear that he has died. No matter what anyone thought of him or disliked him and his actions about his patch, it is still never a happy news when someone dies and he was still one of us oldschool "tech geeks" no matter what.

That is a great idea. It would be excellent if you could do that and post it as open source, in this thread as well. None of us will get out of this life "alive" so the more open, the better. People die, people lose interest and lots of other things can happen. When things are open, it is much easier for others to pick something up and continue even after the maker of it stopped working on it for whatever reason it may be.

Someone's death is never enough reason to alter the past. It has nothing to do with disrespecting or respecting death. You don't go around altering history or deleting old forum posts just because someone died. As a matter of fact, in my humble opinion, it is especially important to KEEP the old records UNALTERED... but hey, that's just me.

Well put. I certainly did not intend to make light of his death. All the same, (perhaps just restating what ! said in a different way) someone's death isn't a reason to vilify them or pretend that they were a saint.

That was just an idea I've proposed, of course you don't have to obey it, I'm just a guest here.
It's just I'm sensitive to such things, I'm sorry if that made you angry.

Anyways, glad you see interest in whatever projects I might do. I have my own share of 98SE experiences (especially with modern hardware), and want to extend them to be useful to others...hopefully when I finally get a decent job.
