A few years ago, some formerly commercial games were made available for free:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/52836 ... e-download
Bob Withers (www.ruffboy.com) has put up for free download six games he
co-authored with Steve O'Dea under the company name Mark Data in the
80's. Mr. Withers is also notable for an early Adventure port to
MS-DOS. The games are graphical (CGA) IF.

The games, along with several more recent programs, are available at
http://www.ruffboy.com/download.htm. The links all say "source", but
they also contain the executables. There are also maps, walkthroughs
and cover-art.

The games are Shenanigans, Sea Search, Calixto Island, The Black
Sanctum, Trekboer and The Vortex Factor.
Unfortunately the site is defunct and the binaries and zips can't be downloaded for the Web Archive.

So, I am going to upload them here. Most of these were games that I played as a child on the TRS-80 Color Computer. In the following post I'll make the PC versions available along with the "art cover". Please note that in addition to a binary (exe file) the zips also contain source code.

Enjoy!

I do have the maps and walkthoughs too, perhaps I should put them in another post as to avoid ruining the game for those that haven't seen them before?

Also note:

Exiting the games doesn't seem to work that well:

Type "quit" and they ask you to put a diskette in Drive A: and press Ctrl+ALT+Delete. In Windows you can ALT+TAB, right click the game in the Taskbar and tell it to Close.

What is the legal way to play these? What I mean is, MS DOS 6.22 is probably not legal to get. I'm guessing I should use the FreeDOS?

Is DOSBox similar to FreeDOS or should I use DOSBox instead? I'm confused now. What is the difference between those two?
